Writing. It’s something we start doing in elementary school. We put pen to paper and scribble out some words that convey our thoughts. But till now, unless you wrote books that frequently turned up on The Times Best Sellers list, or were a maven of direct-marketing copywriting, writing has been a rather undervalued ability.
That’s all changed. The demand for good writing is bigger than ever before. Why? Because writing can make you wealthy online.
Persuasive Website Copywriting
When writing copy for a website, many business people forget the main objective is to convince. So they fill the page with internal-speak (jargon only company insiders understand), and a little chest-thumping talk about why their company is so amazing. Then they check it over, and they’re done. On to the next fire fight.
But website copywriting is there to convince somebody to make a purchase, or at a minimum to sign up for additional info. This means the website needs to show how the product or service will improve the website visitor’s life, why this firm’s service is a step up from the competitor’s, offer proof that it’s superior, and include a strong call to action.
SEO
Search engine optimization is often divided into “on-page” optimization and “off-page” optimization. On-page search engine optimization includes your website’s content and how it’s tagged. Off-page optimization is the links which lead to your website. Google, Yahoo and Bing see links from other websites as signs saying “Hey, this website over here has some content that’s worthwhile.”
- Keyword-Rich Content
So, let’s chat about the on-page optimization. Keyword-rich website content can make you rich. That means generating a large amount of content that is chock full of the keywords and keyword phrases that your prospects and clients would likely use in a search. If you write your content with keywords sprinkled in the right proportions and places, your website will begin to ascend the search engine rankings, attracting more visitors to your website, and extra money to your business.
- Blogging
You don’t just need keyword-rich content. You need a lot of it. The easiest way to expand your website’s content is to create a blog.
- Article Marketing
Now I'm moving on to the off-page search engine optimization. Remember those links you need pointing to your website? A good way to build links is with article marketing. Yes, writing articles just like this one. See the way the links point back to my website? The search engines like that. This short article is gaining votes for my website that will help it to rise in the search engine results.
If you want to drive prospects your way and like writing, do it yourself. If not, hire an online copywriter.
